How to Become an Agile Organization Designed to be Competitive
Unprecedented times require fresh perspectives and frameworks that invite a deeper dive into the core of your organizational vision, competence, and competitive value. Traditional strategic planning focuses on creating stability in the conditions among an organization’s customers, suppliers, competitors, distributors, and delivery channels. Work to engage an agility framework in your next strategic planning cycle. An agility framework is designed and constructed, so each element and feature embeds flexibility as the foundational practice. The pieces are then aligned to support long-term adaptability with high-performance for the greater good. Think about the three elements of an agile organization as being robust, adaptable, and backed by shared leadership.

Michigan Convention Highlights

Chris Geisler and Jesse Kohl at Michigan Convention

Chris Geisler, Business Development Manager for Michigan, and Jesse Kohl, Senior Vice President Corporate Development, proudly represented Corporate Central at the Michigan Credit Union League’s Annual Convention & Exposition, June 7 and 8. They enjoyed connecting with many of our Michigan members and future members in the exposition hall, while they were in between a variety of educational sessions and exciting motivational speakers. Corporate Central was also a wine sponsor at the Corks for a Cause kickoff event, which not only provided fantastic networking for all who attended, but raised over $22,000 for the Michigan Credit Union Foundation. We are already excited to do it again this time next year!

What's New & Who's Who

Kathy Westphal, Product Manager & Business Analyst
Every great ride has a great story! Kathy is taking her story all the way to the 78th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in Sturgis, SD this August. Kathy is enthusiastic about the adventure because this will be her first time on her own bike. Vroom, vroom!

Kathy Westphal

Getting to know... Corporate Central's Kathy Westphal

  1. Who was your childhood actor/actress crush? Cary Grant (I watched a lot of old movies.)
  2. What was the first concert you ever went to? Chicago at Alpine Valley.
  3. What was your first job? What did you like/dislike about it? I was an associate at K-Mart in the Sporting Goods department when I was 16 years old. I come from a family that doesn’t hunt, fish, or camp, and mainly watches sports. The position required me to sell, and answer questions related to, all kinds of sports. Some of the more interesting activities were helping hunters pick the right shotgun or rifle during the hunting seasons and measuring someone’s hand to drill the holes into their new bowling ball. What’s not to like?!
  4. What did you name your first car? Bertha – She was a 1966 Buick Special – a beautiful Turquoise Mist 4-door sedan with no AC, manual windows, AM radio, V8 engine, and most of all a big trunk (thus her name). I had her from 1979 - 1996. I still miss her.
  5. What do you like about working at Corporate Central? First and foremost, the people. There is a strong sense of family and great examples of teamwork and collaboration occurring every day. I also like the opportunities available to learn new things and use my experience to help make a positive difference.

Chris Hytinen, Business Development Executive
Where do I know him from? Well if you asked yourself that question it's probably because you have seen Chris Hytinen around. His extensive credit union background gives him the opportunity to offer technology solutions to credit unions. When Chris isn’t working the phones connecting with members, he’s spending time with his wife and three kids at drama class, dance class, or basketball games. There is no way his life is boring!

Chris Hytinen

Getting to know... Corporate Central's Chris Hytinen

  1. What’s your most embarrassing moment from your teen years? While cutting my steak, I spilled my dinner onto the floor during the senior prom.
  2. What’s the best prank you’ve ever played on someone? I played this prank on my parents... Once I sold my little brother to my best friend’s family, in exchange I bought their family dog! (Ferdinand the Basset Hound).
  3. What totally rad expression did you overuse in high school? That is totally “bogus!”
  4. What are your favorite songs from your teenage years that you still rock out to when nobody else is listening? Anything by Queen or Electric Light Orchestra.
  5. What does the credit union movement mean to you? Due to the fact I grew up in a credit union family, (my father and step-mother were former credit union executives) I was taught the “people helping people” philosophy that is prevalent within the credit union industry. I still identify this philosophy with the credit union movement today.

A Note from Chris

My son, and oldest of our three children, just graduated from the Police Academy and is now serving as an officer with our hometown’s police department. "Officer Felton" is how he is commonly addressed now. I have 2 thoughts on this development. Thought #1 – I guess I’m getting older and I can’t believe my first born is old enough to be a police officer. However, any self-pity over me growing older is immediately overshadowed by Thought #2 – incredible pride. It is remarkably rewarding to see potential and accomplishment realized!

And speaking of accomplishments…it’s been another exciting, busy, and productive month here at Corporate Central. I hope you enjoy the recap in this month’s Corporate Connection!

It was great to see so many members and friends at all the recent conventions, conferences, outings, and more – thank you for everything you do to support and advance our movement.

With summer here, it’s also important to kick back, and enjoy time with family and friends. I hope everyone has a safe and fun summer, and we look forward to a wildly successful second half of 2018!

Thank you,
Chris's Signature
