Getting to know...Corporate Central's Justin Weber

    1. What’s a weird fact you happen to know? The human head weighs 8 lbs, courtesy of Jerry Maguire!
    2. What show on Netflix did you binge watch embarrassingly fast? Both seasons of Stranger Things, within a week!
    3. What did you name your first car? My '99 Ford Taurus was named “the Bubble,” if you see one, you’ll understand.
    4. What was the first concert you ever went to? Rascal Flatts in Moline, IL back in 2004.
    5. Why do you work for a credit union? Working at a credit union aligns with my personal goals and aspirations of helping others achieve and strive towards a common goal. That’s not something that you can do in most institutions. That’s the credit union difference from an employer standpoint. From the member’s standpoint, it’s great to be at the center of that initiative and be the beneficiary of those efforts of your credit union!

    Mark Volz, Relationship Development Officer
His office is set up, lights are turned on, and the car has a full tank of gas. Mark Volz is officially up and ready to hit the road meeting our Wisconsin members face-to-face. Mark brings the value of Corporate Central right to the front door with his years of credit union experience. We sure don’t know how Mark can do it all, did you read his bio?

    Mark Volz

Getting to know...Corporate Central's Mark Volz

    1. What invention do you think will be popular in 20 years? A human transporter device.
    2. What is your favorite childhood memory? Not paying bills or a mortgage.
    3. What was your first job? What did you like/dislike about it? I was a soccer referee when I was 12 years old. I liked that I was getting paid to basically watch kids play soccer. The downside was being hassled by parents as a 12 year old, as I was only 2 – 3 years older than the kids playing, sometimes.
    4. What show on Netflix did you binge watch embarrassingly fast? Fuller House. A little bit of nostalgia involved, but I guess I’m not entirely ashamed by it.
    5. What is your favorite credit union story? This is kind of a boastful story for me, but one of my favorite stories was how I helped connect the Wisconsin Credit Union League’s (WCUL) community service project, last year. It all started with a friend of mine telling me a story about how children at a local elementary, middle, and high school were going home hungry on weekends, and even longer with days off and summer, in the Adams/Wisconsin Dells Area. I shared the story during a conference call with the WCUL YP Advisory, in which Josh Roberts and Jennifer Esser shared it with others at the WCUL. In return, the WCUL reached out to me to speak to my contact for their information. Hearing how much we helped the Adams School District and their children always reminds me of the good that credit unions do in their communities.

The Unbanking of America: How the New Middle Class Survives
What do an undocumented immigrant in the South Bronx, a high net worth entrepreneur and a twenty something graduate student have in common? All three are victims of our dysfunctional mainstream bank and credit system. Today, nearly half of all Americans live from paycheck to paycheck, and income volatility has doubled over the past 30 years. Banks, with their high monthly fees and overdraft charges, are gouging their low-income and middle-income customers, while serving only the wealthiest Americans.

Credit Union Forum Offers HR Professionals a Chance to Learn, Network, and Collaborate
Credit union HR professionals gathered on May 9 to learn about innovative employee benefit solutions at InterLutions’ inaugural I-Care HR Forum. The collaborative educational event – held at Corporate Central Credit Union – offered opportunities to network, share experiences, and gain insights into how I-Care employee benefits can help credit unions take control of increasing benefit management challenges.

“Credit unions can afford to give their employees the benefits they deserve if they do healthcare the same way credit unions do everything else: through collaboration,” said Jesse Kohl, President of InterLutions.

Participants heard informational presentations on the latest trends in wellness programs, data/analytics usage, and claims cost-control strategies from representatives of Lockton. Attendees also participated in roundtable discussions focused on successes, challenges, and future initiatives to improve employee benefits at each participating credit union.

“The opportunity to exchange solutions with healthcare experts and other credit union HR professionals about common challenges related to our HR and employee benefit programs was invaluable,” said Terri Green, AVP of HR at Fox Communities Credit Union. “The I-Care HR Forum reminded us that the more credit unions work together, the better benefits we can provide to our employees.”

    How to Measure Portfolio Performance
QuantyPhi is sharing its balance sheet optimization expertise in a new video, “How to Measure Portfolio Performance.”

In the video, Financial Strategist, Matt Johnson, and President, Kevin Chiappetta, address the best ways to actually measure how a credit union’s investment portfolio is performing, including why a credit union should not be overly focused on other institutions.

Chiappetta discusses what he sees many credit unions doing when reviewing their portfolio’s performance versus what they should be doing and where they should begin and then what needs to be considered to strike an appropriate “balance.”
