I Love My Credit Union Day is a national social media initiative that started in July 2021 by the Illinois Credit Union League. The goal of the day is to promote the credit union difference on social media through actively engaging staff and credit union members to share why they love their credit unions.

Those of us working within the credit union industry live and breathe the cooperative principles, but we don’t always promote the reasons why we love our industry. As part of Corporate Central’s participation in I Love My Credit Union Day, we asked Corporate Central staff two important questions: Why do you love your credit union and why do you love being a part of the credit union movement?

I love credit unions because they are here to serve a part of the population who was not given the same access as others to financial services, and that mentality still holds true today. (Mark)

Twenty-four years ago I truly didn’t know the value of a credit union. Now I take personal pride being part of the credit union movement – a movement that is making such a difference in the everyday lives of so many. In every aspect, credit unions are truly about “people helping people” – their member/owners and their communities. It is at the core of everything they do – even through a pandemic! I am a valued member/owner at my credit union, and they are committed to my financial wellbeing. I don’t believe there is another movement like ours. (Dawn)

I love my credit union, and the credit union movement because they look beyond all labels, stereotypes, and classes of people and just focus on people helping people. It is what makes this movement so unique and genuine…and personally, it just feels good to know you are helping people of every walk of life. (Chris F.)

I love my credit union because they are invested in their members, and they are committed to giving back to the community. I love being part of the credit union movement because credit unions are not-for-profit institutions that pass successes on to members to help them live better lives and achieve their financial goals. I love my credit union because they make it easy to access the financial services I need when I need them, and because they actively give back to my community in both time and dollars. I love being part of the movement because credit unions genuinely strive to serve all people and create financial equity for all. I feel that the products/services we offer to our members can help them be successful, which aids them in their mission to serve. (Chris G.)

I love my credit union because they work with me to help me achieve my financial goals at every stage of life. I don’t feel like a customer at my credit union - I feel like a valued member. I love being a part of the credit union movement because they put people before profits. “People helping people” isn’t just a catchy slogan, it’s the mission. (Orianna)
