What's New & Who's Who

Congratulations to Shannon Cate who celebrated her third anniversary with Corporate Central this month. Shannon is a Member Services Representative with a passion for credit unions. Before joining Corporate Central, Shannon worked in a full-service credit union for 5 years and then left the financial world to test the waters. A couple years later Shannon realized that she missed her passion for credit unions and decided to venture back. Shannon couldn’t imagine a better job as she gets to talk to members and really make a difference every day. She is a true problem solver with the utmost determination to help members to be wildly successful. Her willingness to help members succeed really makes a difference. Outside of work, Shannon likes to spend time at home with her family. A large part of her life is being a mom to her two daughters, Addison and Olivia. Congratulations, Shannon!

Who can participate in a Compliance Roundtable and have fun with it? If you guessed Fred Blask, you’re correct! Fred was a guest speaker at The League’s Compliance Roundtable on September 14 in Pewaukee. Fred is Corporate Central’s Project & Compliance Risk Manager. He is responsible for ERM and evaluating areas of operational risk and compliance with technology partners and vendors. He is also involved with Third Party Oversight and BSA/OFAC compliance. Fred promotes the credit union's overall compliance culture and coordinates various internal audits and exams. He will be hosting a compliance webinar in November so watch for details! Outside of work Fred takes time to enjoy his two daughters as both keep him young at heart. He also has an adventurous side, or dark side (he’s a big Star Wars fan). May the force be with you!

On August 30, Nick Fanning, Corporate Central’s SVP/Chief Financial Officer, served as a panelist during a discussion at the National Association of State Credit Union Supervisors (NASCUS) Summit 2017.

The Summit is a unique event that brings credit union regulators and practitioners together for mutual exchange and dialog. It is a rewarding opportunity for both groups as they listen to ideas, share thoughts and look for solutions to the challenges and opportunities facing the state credit union system.

Nick served on a panel alongside Francois Henriquez from Schutts Bowen and Bradley Long, Executive Vice President of Finance from First Florida Credit Union to discuss the future of the corporate credit union system. NCUA has suggested that the time has come to re-evaluate whether the corporate rules should be relaxed. The prospect of revisiting NCUA’s corporate credit union rules raises questions for the credit union system.

The panel discussion explored issues related to the future of the corporate credit union system, the lessons learned from the recession, and the various paths forward.  Nick' message was that corporates must act like credit unions by being a safe place for member credit unions to deposit excess funds, a reliable place to obtain liquidity, and a collaborator with members and the movement for developing products and services and achieving scale.
